"..of the more than 250 species, less than 10 have contributed to horticulture.."  -Wolfgang Horn,

"Genetics and Crossability of Pelargoniums". Proceedings of the Third International Geranium Conference, 1992

The Pelargonium Breeder (TPB) was a newsletter published in 1973 -74 by the International Association of Pelargonium Breeders.  TPB's stated  purpose was to collect, record and disseminate "information on hybridizing within the Geranium family, particularly within the genus Pelargonium and its cultivars".

Like the original TPB, The Pelargonium Breeder II (TPB II) aims to promote breeding of Pelargonium species and cultivars, and  provide information to facilitate that endeavor.TPB II is dedicated to the memory of the people behind TPB - Hamilton Tyler, editor, Elizabeth LeCount, membership secretary, and  Frances Hartsook, who conceived TPB, and for whom the newsletter was the fulfillment of a long-time dream. We will try to live up to the name and the standards they set

Thanks to Cynthia Lohry (past President of the International Geranium Society), Barry Roth and Laurie O'Meara, for their suggestions and help; Sandy Connerley for her incredible support; and everyone who contributed information and articles for this issue.

Welcome to The Pelargonium Breeder II.

The fact that you are reading this, probably puts you into one of four categories:

1. You stumbled on this newsletter by accident, and think that you don't even know what a pelar... whatever is. Sure you do! Many people call it a geranium. While in the geranium family, pelargoniums are not true geraniums. Stick around, it could be fun.

2. You know what a pelargonium is, and are looking for information to try your hand at hybridizing.

3. You, like myself, are a hobbyist who has already discovered this fascinating pastime and want to learn more. Face it, you can't get enough pellie info to satisfy your cravings.

4.You are a professional hybridizer, scientist or researcher. You may do it as a hobby or earn a living at it, or both. You have information vital to everyone in category three, if we are to get our fix. Your nirvana should be shared. Help us, please!       more
